Welcome to Ramsey County Ecology.  I am writing this blog to start a dialog on the ecology of Ramsey County Minnesota.  It is, in part, for my education, as I wrestle with concepts I am studying and how I see them manifest in my immediate surroundings, and, in part, for the education of my readers. Finally, as I go down the path of educating raising my children here, I realize I do not have all the answers.  Even if I did, I want to learn with them, see ecology through their eyes, see what engages them, and create an environment in which they can have experience like I did as kid growing up in "the woods" but of their own making.

This blog is part of a larger project of knowing more about where I live.  In 2010, I was in Hawai'i and came up with a list of questions about what I was observing, then started to formulate a research plan.  It occured to me that I would not be in Hawai'i again for a couple of years and would only have a short time when I returned.  Then it struck me.  Can I apply those same questions to Minnesota?  Can I apply them to the Twin Cities?

I hope that what I observe, share, and present will help you engage more deeply and often with the natural world we live in, starting in your (or my) own backyard.  Likewise, I hope you will stimulate my thoughts through an engaging dialog and sharing your experience in our corner of the state.  I look forward to the journey.

Peace.
